Is Your Computer Infected?

Unexpected pop-ups, unfamiliar programs or a browser that keeps taking you to the wrong website can make a computer difficult to use. We can check what is causing the problem and explain your repair options.

  • Repeated virus warnings or unwanted ads
  • Your homepage or search engine changes
  • Unknown extensions or programs appear
  • Security software stops working normally
  • Unusual slowdowns, freezes or crashes
  • Someone you do not trust accessed your PC
    •

A slow computer does not always have a virus. Hardware problems, storage issues and software conflicts can cause similar symptoms. We look for the cause before recommending a repair.

Help After a Tech Support Scam

Did a pop-up tell you to call Microsoft? Did someone claiming to be tech support ask to connect to your computer? We can inspect the PC for unwanted software and remote-access tools.

Do not call the number in an alarming pop-up or give an unexpected caller access to your computer. If you already shared passwords, change them using a trusted device. If you paid a scammer, contact your bank or payment provider promptly.

Cleaning a computer does not reverse money transfers or automatically secure online accounts. Tell us what happened so we can help you identify the next steps.

Read the FTC guide to tech support scams.

What to Expect When You Bring It In

Tell us what changed. Describe any warnings, suspicious downloads or remote-access sessions. Bring your laptop charger and let us know which files matter most.

We check the computer. We look for malicious software and other causes of the problem, then explain the recommended work. Ask us about current pricing and turnaround when you call.

We discuss the next steps. Depending on the condition of Windows, cleanup may be sufficient or reinstallation may be advisable. Tell us about your backup needs before work begins.

Common Virus Removal Questions

Will I lose my photos or documents?

Many infections can be addressed without erasing personal files, but that depends on the damage and the repair required. Let us know what needs to be preserved. If files are already missing or inaccessible, ask about our data recovery service. Recovery is not guaranteed.

Can you help if antivirus software is already installed?

Yes. Tell us which security software you use and what it has reported. We can investigate persistent warnings, unwanted programs and browser problems even if a scan has already been run.

Does every infected computer need Windows reinstalled?

No. In some cases, cleanup is enough. If Windows is damaged or the system cannot be trusted after a compromise, a fresh installation may be the better option. We explain the options for your computer.
